Pictures from 2008 Season

The first sunny Sunday in 2008....! (well not quite, but it felt like it)

This time we've got pre and post-race photos, as well as the usual selection of from the day's racing; thanks to Nicky Buckett, John Weller and Jane Anderson for taking the photos.

The pre-race build-up (not action photos, but thought it would be nice to have a record for once of club members doing all the things that go on before a race)

An early starter: Jane takes to the water whilst the rest of the helms are still in the boat park
An early starter: Jane takes to the water whilst everybody else is still in the boat park Now, where do I put this string....? Simon, complete with admiring audience Still admiring....
Simon, now with helping hands... David and Meg intent on the sail; added commentary from the Vice-Commodore John and Mike, intent on their pre-race preparation Now what happens if I pull this...
John's Bosun taking to the water A phalanx of Lasers Big boats and small boats..... (might appear to be a puzzling study in perspective if you didn't know) Amazing how long the shadows are in September
All helms gone to check the course...? John D looks back And so does Jane A Jane C showing the laid-back way of coming ashore
Simon checks the business end John goes Solo Tom and Emily edge away from the shore They who must be obeyed (well, just for as long as they're Race Officers, anyway....)

On the water - and the start

Don't think that you can see them all at once, but this was a Sunday when we had getting on for 20 boats out for the morning race, so the start involved some fairly close-quarters jockeying for position, as the photos below show....

Circling before the start A crowded bit of the lake Nicky goes limp-wristed A study in concentration
Look behind you before you pull away Five seconds to the gun And they're off (actually the Wayfarer is already just about to round the first mark...) And now the winds shifted and some of the boats may struggle to make the mark...
Someone here is probably calling 'Starboard' John in the Solo; David in the Otter Almost at the mark One boat round; four still trying to get there

Meg in one Pico Tom and Emily in another

And the post-race wind down

After the race, several of the club took out the Falmouth Bass Boat and, with the wind dropping away to a whisper, went up to Far Buoy and back very very very slowly indeed......

Not built for speed, perhaps   Line up the unusual suspects: (L>R: John, Stephanie, Jane C, Tim, Derek, Roger)
