AM: Sailboat Trophy 1 Furious winds were forecast and helms were cautious in their choice of sails. Of the seven Lasers, four flew little 4.7s, three flew Radials and only James Pollard sported a full-sized sail. It got him the lead for the first three laps but perhaps was the cause of the splintered fibreglass and collapsed mast which ended his race. Bob Sampson (Radial) had crossed the line first but James was ahead at the end of the first leg (Inlet White). Steve Axford was third when the first lap finished and Jane Anderson in the first of the 4.7s was fourth where she stayed throughout the race. Sue Murray (4.7) was fifth and Adam Hilton's Solo was the first non-Laser. He was part of a three-way battle with the Pollard/Graham Bosun and the Heasman Streaker Wave which raged throughout the first three laps until a gust up-ended the Solo at the Dam and skipper mal-function at Far put the Streaker well behind. Among the Laser Radials, Bob and Steve swapped second and third places frequently and Linda Spiller and Nathan Pollard in 4.7s seemed to pick up a place each most laps. Towards the back of the field the Duncalf Toppers circulated with Robin Spiller and John Savage for company. The really strong winds never quite arrived but any boat capable of planing gave its helm exhilarating runs back down the Lake from Far. Results: 1. Bob Sampson (Laser Radial) 2. Jane Anderson (Laser 4.7) 3. Steve Axford (Laser Radial) 4. Sue Murray (Laser 4.7) 5. Brian Pollard and Raily Graham (Bosun) 6. Nathan Pollard (Laser 4.7) 7. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 8. Linda Spiller (Laser 4.7) 9. John Duncalf (Topper) 10. Roger Heasman (Streaker Wave) 11. Robin Spiller (Streaker Wave) 12. John Savage (Solo) James Pollard (Laser) Adam Hilton, (Solo) rtd PM: Commodore's Cup 3 Paul Whybrow (Solo) started fast in reduced winds but was soon elbowed aside by Lasers; Sue Murray first but by the end of the lap Steve Axford (who'd overtaken Sue), Bob Sampson and Jane Anderson. Brian and James Pollard's flying Bosun was past him too. The fleet spread out during lap 2 with Steve Axford well ahead of Bob Sampson, who'd got past Sue Murray. Paul repassed the Bosun at Dam Green and Nathan Pollard and Linda Spiller swapped places. Steve's lead of three and a half minutes over Jane Anderson gave him the win despite the handicap advantage of her 4.7 sail but Bob Sampson, second on the water was not far enough ahead to keep the place. The Bosun, ahead of Paul Whybrow again, was fifth over the finish line and the handicap left that result alone but the two Solos, sixth and ninth on the water, were demoted. Results: 1. Steve Axford (Laser Radial) 2. Jane Anderson (Laser 4.7) 3. Bob Sampson (Laser Radial) 4. Sue Murray (Laser 4.7) 5. Brian and James Pollard (Bosun) 6. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 7. John Duncalf (Topper) 8. Linda Spiller (Laser 4.7) 9. Nathan Pollard (Laser 4.7) 10. Paul Whybrow (Solo) 11.
