AM: Tamar Memorial Trophy 5 Four sailors braved the murk after a delayed start due to thick fog where even the start line buoys could not be seen from the clubhouse. Nathan Pollard was quickest off the mark in his Laser Radial closely followed by Vicki Duncalf (Topper), Brian & James Pollard (Tasar) with Geoff Floyd (Solo) who was the last competitor to cross the start line. Nathan initially passed Vicki and then was passed himself by Dad and big Bro James who took the lead on the beat to West. On the downwind leg back to the Dam, Nathan stayed on his Dad's shirt tails and with a deft touch managed to retake the lead squeezing around Dam Green and cross the start line in first position. His glory however, was short lived and Dad & James retook the lead in the last positional change of the race on the beat back to West. In the meantime, Geoff was slowly catching Vikki, finally getting the better of her smaller sail whilst passing Zebra on the run to Dam Green to gain 3rd place. After all of the initial excitement the gaps between the boats slowly increased with the 2 slower boats both being lapped in the latter stages of the race. Line honours went to Brian & James followed closely by Nathan with next Geoff and finally Vicki both a few minutes shy of the 2 quicker boats. Once the handicap was applied though it was Nathan who claimed the laurel wreath with results as follows: Results: 1. Nathan Pollard (Laser Radial) 2. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 3. Brian & James Pollard (Tasar) 4. Geoff Floyd (Solo) PM: Gosling Trophy 4 (Ladies/Gents/Juniors) The same 4 sailors again took to the water in defiant mood (they were wet anyway)! The outlook seemed brighter and at first the wind was fair but became lighter as the afternoon race progressed. A great start by James Pollard (now helming) and Dad Brian gave them a lead that they did not relinquish at any stage. The other boats crossed the start almost together and Vikki was soon passed by Nathan (Laser Radial) and Geoff (Solo) in her Topper but by some careful sailing managed to point a lot closer to the wind than either of them and almost managed to regain 2nd spot again but for a spurt from Nathan leaving her in 3rd place at West mark. The placings of the morning were soon resumed as Geoff once again got the better of Vicki and the lineup of James & Brian (Tasar), Nathan (Laser Radial), Geoff (Solo) and finally Vicki (Topper) continued for the rest of the race though with the lighter airs seeming to favour the Solo and Topper, the leaders unable to shrug them off with same ease of the earlier race and when the handicap was applied the results were: Results: 1. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 2. Nathan Pollard (Laser Radial) 3= Geoff Floyd (Solo) & James & Brian Pollard (Tasar) equal 3rd. Race Officer Paul Anderson.
