AM: Commodore's Cup 7 Sixteen boats took to the water: eight Lasers and pairs of Toppers, Streakers and Solos, plus a Tasar and a Bosun. A Force 4 north westerly, gusting to 5, took the fleet along at a fair lick, with the Tasar completing lap 1 in the lead after barely more than ten minutes. Second was Jane Anderson's Laser Radial and third Nathan Pollard's similar boat. Sue Murray's 4.7 was ahead of many theoretically faster boats at fourth with Adam Hilton's Solo breaking the Laser procession at fifth. There followed another bunch of squabbling Lasers before Toby Tobias and John Dabbs came along in the Bosun. The Streakers - Robin Spiller and Roger Heasman - had misfortunes, Robin's bad start, Roger's quick capsize avoiding a charging Bosun. The Duncalf Toppers were consistent at fourteenth and sixteenth with John Savage's Solo between them. By the end the leading Solo had been pushed down below the Laser bunch and then the handicap put Sue Murray's little 4.7 into a well-deserved first place. Results: 1. Sue Murray (Laser 4.7) 2. Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) 3. Brian and James Pollard (Tasar) 4. Jane Chadney (Laser 4.7) 5. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 6. Nathan Pollard (Laser Radial) 7. John Duncalf (Topper) 8. John Savage (Solo) PM: Pursuit 5 For the afternoon pursuit race the fleet had reduced to thirteen boats after Sue Murray scratched and Adam Hilton lost a shroud on the way to the start. As is the way with Pursuit races nothing much happened in the first lap or two, indeed Vicki Duncalf's leading Topper stayed at the front throughout the race and John Duncalf's second placed Topper was only knocked off its perch on the last lap. But Roger Heasman made early progress. He was seventh at the end of lap 1, sixth after lap 2, third after lap 3 and second at the end. His advance was closely followed by Linda Spiller who got herself from eight to third and by Nathan Pollard who got from ninth to fourth. The Tasar, however, given a whole lap to catch up by its handicap, remained at thirteenth, but was promoted to twelfth by Robin Spiller's jumped start . Results: 1. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 2. Roger Heasman (Streaker) 3. Linda Spiller (Laser Radial) 4. Nathan Pollard (Laser Radial) 5. Paul Whybrow (Solo) 6. Jane Chadney (Laser 4.7) 7. James Pollard (Laser) 8.
