AM: Cup Race 1

With a moderate easterly wind coming over the Dam, Bob Sampson, who ran the races, 
chose the difficult and long Home 2 start line but Jane Anderson, in her Laser Radial, made 
her customary quick get-away, rounded the first buoy, Dam Green, first, and was never 
headed. The cleverness of Bob's choice of course was shown when no one clashed with the 
fishermen who lined the banks and even advanced into the water! Jane was followed round 
Dam Green by a full Laser, Nathan Pollard's, by Robin Spiller's Streaker, by Paul Anderson's 
full Laser and Adam Hilton's Solo. The Duncalf Toppers followed despite Vicki having crossed 
the start line an excellent second, the lightish winds exaggerating the speed difference. 
Roger Heasman, who had a terrible start - tenth - set out on a remarkable drive through the 
fleet which took him to sixth at the end of lap 1, fourth lap 2, and second at the finish, a few 
metres ahead of Adam Hilton's Solo. Brian Pollard and Cilla Gilbert, on the other hand, 
stayed at seventh throughout in the Club's Bosun. John Dabbs in his Gull was forced to retire 
when he found himself holding a stick that no longer extended the tiller!

PM: Pursuit 2

John Duncalf started the Pursuit race first, as is traditional. He was pursued by his wife, four 
minutes later and, after another minute, by John Dabbs' Gull (a piece of string ensuring tiller 
and extension stayed together). Vicki and John had a ding dong race throughout. Roger 
Heasman, continuing a fine day's sailing, took advantage of starting fourth in a faster boat, 
got himself to third at the end of lap 1, second on lap 2 and first at the end. Nathan Pollard 
started seventh but was second at the end well ahead of Jane Anderson who was third and 
had started a minute behind him.
