Tootle 3 Most of the time there was more wind than for previous Tootles – laps were taking between ten and fifteen minutes - although there were moments when boats were becalmed. Brian Pollard and Cilla Gilbert in the Tasar got stuck and took an age to get to the start line. Adam Hilton (Solo) and Robin Spiller (Streaker) started first with Robin quickly overtaking and staying in front of the Solo. Sue Murray and Bob Sampson in the RS200 came next and they got past Adam on the long tack to West. Bob had the asymmetric up nice and quick for the reach to Pinky and that gained them water but it wasn't until they rounded Pinky that they actually got past Robin. The Streaker then found good wind in the centre of the Lake and edged back into the lead. At Dam Green Sue tried to take the inside line and it was neck and neck going into the second lap and the RS didn't finally take and hold the lead until Pinky. After that the three boats stayed in formation, the gaps between them fluctuating. Sally Wills and her crew/mentor Roger Heasman must have had a grandstand view of all this; they were not far behind. John Dabbs in the Gull was further back but not far enough! He won.
