AM: Icicle 3 With the wind just getting up in time for the race on a lovely sunny day. nine boats took to the water. Bob Sampson and Debbie Fairhead in the RS 200 seemed to get the best start, however Steve Axford in his Laser came steaming past them to take the lead at the first buoy. Steve then showed off his skills by moving further and further ahead over the race distance. At inlet buoy on the first lap Simon Veal appeared to get an overlap on at least three boats but was forced to miss the buoy and had to tack to re-take it. Meanwhile, Emily, Simon's daughter, still in only her first season at the helm after an initially slow start caught up well in her Topper. Unfortunately for her the wind was very gusty and after being overpowered several times she retired at the end of the first lap. Having recovered his composure Simon started to fight his way back through the fleet and moved himself up to third. Steady racing by Vicki Duncalf, John Buckett and John Chandler saw them keep the distance to the front runners within handicap distance to gain good finishing positions, whilst Mike Ford in his Bosun and Alan Comber and John Weller in the Enterprise had a good tussle to decide last place. Results: 1st Steve Axford (Laser) 2nd Vicki Duncalf (Topper0 3rd John Buckett (Otter) 4th John Chandler (Bosun) 5th Bob Sampson and Debbie Fairhead (RS2000 6th Simon Veal (Laser) 7th Mike Ford (Bosun) 8th Alan Comber and John Weller (Enterprise) Emily Veal (Topper) rtd PM: Frostbite 4 Again nine boats crossed the start line and with Steve Axford crewing for Paul Whybrow in the spinnaker-flying Scorpion, the end result was in little doubt. Bob and Debbie in the RS 200 also raced well to finish second on the water, however they were unable to get enough distance between themselves and the slower boats to make it count on handicap. Simon Veal also accounted well for himself to finish third on the water. As has been seen for most of the season the Toppers of Vicki and John Duncalf have been a force to be reckoned with when handicaps are taken into account and the end result saw Vicki get a second, second place result with husband John third. John Buckett also did well again but had to content himself with a one place drop for the afternoon's final position. Results: 1st Paul Whybrow and Steve Axford (Scorpion) 2nd Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 3rd John Duncalf (Topper) 4th John Buckett (Otter) 5th Bob Sampson and Debbie Fairhead (RS200) 6th John Chandler (Bosun) 7th Simon Veal (Laser) 8th Mike Ford (Bosun) 9th John Weller and Alan Comber (Enterprise)
