AM: Frostbite Series - Race 1 5 boats started the race at 12pm on a very wet day with the wind gusting over the lake from the west towards a bank of competing anglers. Marks Zebra and Middle were put in the course keep the boats well away from the anglers. Nathan Pollard, helming with dad Brian as crew, overtook Jane Anderson on the start line. Bob Sampson had a sporting slow start. After rounding the Dam Green mark Vicki Duncalf tipped in to allow John Duncalf and Bob to pass her. But she managed to catch up by Inlet mark to overtake John. Nathan had problems just after Inlet and also capsized. He managed to stay dry while dad went in the water. They were up quickly to remain in third behind Bob and Jane. Bob extended his lead up to Pinkie. Nathan caught up Jane on the way from Pinkie to Middle. The two had a contest beating to West White with Nathan taking the lead after West White towards the start line. Lap 2 increased the gaps between Bob, Nathan, Jane, Vicki and John. Sadly John capsized after rounding Inlet. Matt, SW Lakes Trust, came out to rescue him but not before John had lost a boot! John then retired. By this time the rain was so heavy it was difficult to see from the race hut to the farthest mark. Everyone was widely separated and it did not look fun, so the course was shortened to 3 laps. Nobody objected when they came off the water. At the end of lap 3 the sailors finished in the order they started lap 2. Results 1. Bob Sampson (Laser 4.7) 2. Jane Anderson (Topper) 3. Vicki Duncalf (Topper) 4. Nathan & Brian Pollard (Tasar) John Duncalf (Topper) rtd Over lunch the mist rolled in. It was so thick that we could not see 3 marks round which to race. So the afternoon's Icicle 1 race was abandoned. Many thanks to Penny Abbot for OOD duties and Mandy for her photographs.
