Wednesday Race Bob Sampson generously volunteered to man the safety boat and Robin Spiller to OOD and so we were able to run a race; many thanks to them. Tuesday had been a lovely day with light winds and Thursday afternoon promised sun, but Wednesday, inevitably in this season of jinxed Wednesdays, was windy and dark. Nonetheless seven sailors, including two novices, took to the water. Alas it was too tough for either Cilla Gilbert or Pavol Rovensky to helm the Bosuns but they were happy to crew for Brian Pollard and Adam Hilton respectively. The Lasers were all wearing their skimpiest 4.7 skirts; Penny Abbott borrowed hers and was glad of it. Brian Pollard got his Bosun away very well and was still in front at Middle but the Lasers soon asserted themselves, Nathan Pollard and Penny Abbott battling throughout for the lead but at the end of each lap Nathan still held it, by twelve seconds at the finish. The gusts in the middle of the Lake were getting wilder and on the fourth and last lap, Adam Hilton, fearing for his rigging, turned tail and ran for home. Results: 1. Nathan Pollard (Laser 4.7) 2. Penny Abbott (Laser 4.7) 3. Brian Pollard and Cilla Gilbert (Bosun) 4. Linda Spiller (Laser 4.7) Adam Hilton and Pavol Rovensky (Bosun) rtd Many thanks to Bob Sampson and Robin Spiller for making the racing possible.
