AM: Frostbite 2 A bright, still Lake greeted crews as they arrived and when they took to the water the light, light, changeable breeze proved to be from the northwest not, as it had seemed, from the south and the start towards the Dam became downwind. Jane Anderson did not cross the start line first - Sue Murray did - but as the pair approached Dam Green buoy Jane took the inside line and edged Sue outwards, rounding the buoy first. Then she allowed her boom to gybe, putting herself on starboard while Sue stayed on port and was unable to attack as they rounded Dam Red. The Anderson lead then extended and was never challenged. She finished this two lap, one hour race ten minutes ahead of her nearest competitor. Penny Abbott was in third place and the fleet in line astern as they gently progressed up the Lake. A change to the order took place when Jane Chadney overtook the Tasar helmed by Nathan Pollard. Graham Joyce was next and the Geoff Floyd Solo followed in seventh. The remaining boats were making very slow progress and one by one retired, John Dabbs paddling his Gull home! Clever tactics or luck with wisps of wind took Jane Chadney up to second; something similar took Geoff Floyd past Nathan Pollard, but abandoned him so that he was down to seventh by the end and Nathan up to fourth. Results: 1. Jane Anderson (Laser) 2. Jane Chadney (Laser) 3. Sue Murray (Laser) 4. Penny Abbott (Laser) 5. Graham Joyce (Laser) 6. Nathan and Brian Pollard (Tasar) 7. Geof Floyd (Solo) John Savage (Solo), Vicki Duncalf (Topper), John Dabbs (Gull) rtd PM: Icicle 2 Three new competitors and a little more wind arrived for the afternoon race. The whole field got off quickly and at the first mark Jane Anderson had taken the lead with Sue Murray and Robin Spiller (Streaker) close behind. Paul Whybrow (Solo) and Brian Pollard, now back at the helm of the Tasar, were next. Taking a different tack took Jane Chadney and Brian Pollard up to the front as the field headed up the Lake but the fickle breeze then favoured Sue Murray briefly until they tacked towards West. As they rounded the buoy however it was clear that Jane Anderson was back at the front now followed by Sue Murray and Jane Chadney. The leading positions were unchanged at the end of lap 1 but the wind was treating helms unequally; Paul Whybrow was fourth but there was a long gap between him and the almost static remaining bunch from which eventually emerged Graham Joyce and then Geoff Floyd and Brian Pollard. Crossing to West Paul Whybrow had passed Jane Chadney but at the start of lap 2 Brian Pollard had become becalmed and was passed by all but Vicki Duncalf's Topper until a gust found him and he rejoined the race. Lack of wind shortened the course again and Jane Anderson crept over the line to complete her double. Results: 1. Jane Anderson (Laser) 2. Sue Murray (Laser) 3. Paul Whybrow (Solo) 4.
