AM: Tamar Memorial Trophy 10

Plenty of club members came to Tamar Lake on another very windy Sunday but only five 
decided to take to the water. Geoff Floyd, who was running the show, had multiple 
assistants! The resultant fleet consisted of three Lasers, the 4.7s of Bob Sampson and James 
Pollard and the Radial of James Pollard, the Solo  of Adam Hilton and the Topper of Elliot 
Pomeroy. Bob Sampson was first away with Nathan Pollard following but it was the Solo 
which made the most of the wind on the beat-turning-into-a-reach to West Red. That lead 
was lost to Bob Sampson after the pack had run at speed across the centre of the Lake to 
Inlet White and had to tack to round the headland and make for Far. Both the Topper and 
the Solo found tacking back from Far hard in the narrow stretch of water available between 
the bank and the day's competition fishermen; Adam suffered a capsize and Elliot retired at 
the end of the lap. Lap 2 saw Adam also give up the unequal struggle after being up-ended 
again at West. Also on that lap Nathan took Bob's lead but he only held it until Inlet on lap 3 
when he capsized. A circuit of the course was taking an exhausting eighteen to twenty 
minutes and the Officer of the Day shortened the race from four to three laps. Bob Sampson 
crossed the finish line a good fifteen seconds ahead of Nathan Pollard whose Radial 
handicap demoted him.

The winds continued to gain in strength and capriciousness and, with a general lack of 
enthusiasm for more racing, the afternoon's Cup race was cancelled.
